Static Dress proves they are worth the hype with a visceral set at The Opera House
Hailing from Leeds, Static Dress is one of the hottest new bands to come onto the scene with their nostalgic screamo, emo, and metalcore sound. Their debut album Rouge Carpet Disaster dropped last May via Venn Records, and it's by far one of the best albums I've listened to all year. For any music fans growing up in the early 2000s, Static Dress seems to be perfectly curated, taking cues from an entire generation of screamo and emo bands. Their album hits me with hints of Underoath, Glassjaw, Emery, Hopesfall, Alexisonfire and even Rosesdead (the Oakville, Ontario screamo band that just so happened to get a heavy dose of press in the UK before disbanding).
The band was in Toronto supporting Loathe on their North American tour but stole the show (to me) with their fast-paced, hair-raising set that blasted through a small selection of their tracks off their debut full-length and first-ever EP.
If you have yet to hear Static Dress, be ready for them to hit the airwaves harder in 2023. It's only a matter of time before they blow up, be sure to check them out while they're still playing small venues. If you missed their set, check out all the photos below:
