Known for their intense performances, Philadelphia hardcore band Soul Glo brought their unfiltered energy to The Concert Hall in Toronto on May 11th. The Philly three-piece unleashed mayhem upon Toronto with the strike of the first chord from GG Guerra's guitar, as the band ripped into "Coming Correct is Cheaper" from their most recent LP, 2022's Diaspora Problems. The set immediately ignited the crowd, who moshed, crowd-surfed, and became an entity of their own—a frenzied uniformity with chaos that had rhythm—as lead singer Pierce Jordan commanded the audience with his raspy rapid-fire vocals.

As the band wrapped up "Gold Chain Punk (whogonbeatmyass?)," the chaos peaked when a medical emergency interrupted the set. The unhinged start to the show quite literally caused a full-body release for one fan, leading to a pause as paramedics attended to a collapsed individual in the middle of The Concert Hall. Despite the interruption, the crowd's energy never waned. After a long wait and a trail of puke, Soul Glo returned to continue what they started: the total annihilation of Toronto music fans (in a good way, of course).

I haven't experienced an opening set like Soul Glo's in quite some time—one where the band does more than set the tone for the night but leaves you in a state of positively charged physical and emotional agony that you don't want to end. If their set hadn't been paused, it would have been one for the ages. I can't wait to see them again.
