Through Snow and Chaos, Counterparts Deliver a Relentless Tour Opener in Toronto

Hamilton’s Counterparts kicked off their Heaven Let Them Die tour with a brutal, cathartic set at Toronto’s History on Monday, February 17th, 2025. The night felt like a test of devotion—frigid temperatures, waist-high snowbanks, and a city still digging out from back-to-back storms—but none of it stopped the die-hards from packing the venue. After all, this was the first show of the tour, and after dropping one of 2024’s best metal releases, Counterparts had a lot to prove.
From the moment they stepped on stage, draped in shadows and backlit by bursts of blue, red, and orange strobes, it was clear they weren’t here to ease into the setlist. Church pews lined each side of the stage, towering candelabras flickered, and massive stained-glass-style panels cast a haunting glow—every detail reinforcing the religious imagery of their latest EP. But theatrics aside, it was the music that did the preaching.
Brendan Murphy commanded the stage with raw intensity, his vocals slicing through the wall of sound as the band ripped through Heaven Let Them Die cuts and fan favourites with surgical precision. Every breakdown hit like a hammer, and every crowd surfer was a testament to the unshakable bond of Ontario’s hardcore and metal community.
It was the kind of night where exhaustion didn’t matter, where frostbite and delayed transit were afterthoughts. Counterparts made it worth every obstacle. And if this tour opener was any indication, what follows Heaven Let Them Die will be nothing short of biblical.
